Contour adaptation
People are different. Therefore, seat comfort systems must respond to different body sizes and body weights. Today with new technologies, it is possible to provide even more individual comfort in which ergonomic and thus health aspects can also be considered.
Lumbar support
With the lumbar support, the iliac crest or the lumbar spine are supported counteracting the resulting deformity of the spine when sitting. In car seats, but also in aircraft seats and office chairs, there are different variants of lumbar support which increase the comfort of the seat. The electro-pneumatic version used nowadays were developed based on the mechanical and later the electro-mechanical variants.
Thus, lumbar support can effectively influence the sitting posture:
- Support of the pelvis (prevents rotation of the pelvis to the back) and the lumbar vertebrae
- Vertical support of the upper body
- Reduction of adverse muscle activation, the tensing of the ligaments and the pressure on the intervertebral discs.
Side bolster adjustment
Through air cushions in the side bolsters of the seat back or the seat cushion, the width of the backrest or the seat width can be adjusted depending on the body type providing safe support. The air cushions sit under the seat cushion or seat cushion foam and are supported on the seat structure through a wedge or a support plate. When filling the air cushions, the curve of the seat cushion is moved to the middle of the seat. Side bolsters mainly support sporty and serpentine driving.
Multi-contour seat
Multi-contour means that the shape of the seat can be adapted to the anatomy or the personal comfort needs of the person. This is made possible by up to 18 air cushions with inflatable air chambers under the seat cushions, including three air chambers for the lumbar region and two chambers for the shoulder area.
